Mini-Profile: Riley Schermerhorn

 

Riley Schermerhorn grew up surrounded by sports and diplomats, and now a senior advertising and communications major at CU Boulder, she finds herself gravitating more towards the world of hockey.

 

Schermerhorn, raised in Washington D.C., lived a life full of Washington Capitals hockey games, season tickets, and a whirl of school sports. “I grew up in the sports world pretty heavily,” said Schermerhorn. From childhood to present day, she’s racked up an endless list of CU, Capitals, and Team USA games. 

 

Sports connect her family. She and her siblings played many of them, her mother coached lacrosse, and her father brought the love of the game. Her family was well known in a tight-knit town, but her dream lies around the world. 

 

Apart from her major, Schermerhorn is also a double minor in sports media and journalism which she hopes to utilize through a hockey career. Her post-grad plans look like traveling with a team, and looking to coach down the line. 

 

“I would love to do hockey, that's my dream sport, it's a hard industry to be in because it's a lot of work and traveling,” said Schermerhorn.
